On Wednesday 11th November, over 200 people from 40 businesses across Lancashire came together online for the annual Blackburn Youth Zone Quiz.
The Quiz is organised by Cummins Mellor family of businesses who are also Patrons of the Youth Zone, a 21st-century youth hub located at the heart of Blackburn, aiming to change the prospects offered to young people in the area.
As well as the quiz, the evening saw a raffle with a variety of fantastic prizes donated by Lancashire businesses, from afternoon tea at The Lowry Hotel to a Fitbit and an office chair donated by Elgar Furniture.
After an exciting 10 rounds of questions, the end of the evening saw Forbes Solicitors take the winning title and were then presented with a trophy and medals made by members of Blackburn Youth Zone.
The £4,622 raised on the night will go towards the Youth Zone’s ‘Dare to Dream’ programme, facilitated by the team at Blackburn Youth Zone. The funds raised from this event will go towards running Blackburn Youth Zone ‘Dare to Dream’ employability services which supports young people’s employment opportunities – in the immediate and medium-term. This programme will be key to ensuring that the UK makes a rapid and full economic recovery from COVID-19 enabling young people kick start their journey into the world of work.
In previous years the Quiz Quest has been a night to remember not only for bringing Lancashire businesses together but the money raised has enabled Blackburn Youth Zone to deliver 3 employability programmes. This has resulted in 33% of young people participants moving on to gain employment elsewhere and 50% progressing on to further studies.
