Blackburn Youth Zone is guided by three main principles, which we believe make us unique:
Starting where young people are, going where young people take us…
Since the project’s conception, young people have played an active part in our development. Four years before the Youth Zone opened, we began working with a group of eight young people who became the Young Person’s Development Group. Together they helped inform all aspects of the Youth Zone, from our name and brand identity to what the building should look and feel like.
Providing opportunities for supportive adults to build positive relationships with young people…
Volunteers are at the heart of what we do. It’s important that young people have access to positive adult role models of all ages and backgrounds, bringing our young people and wider populace closer together.
Bringing the people of the Blackburn area together to support our young people…
It is our desire that the Youth Zone be part of the fabric of our town, owned by every member of our community. 50 percent of our running costs are financed by the local business community and, by bringing companies together with a shared purpose, the backing of your young people.
The Youth Zone has created a unique network of the area’s leading businesses from a variety of sectors and we are grateful for their foresight in investing in our project.
Individuals and community groups can get involved with the Youth Zone through our events programme or, for those who want to organise their own events and activities, we provide support and guidance on fundraising.
