Solicitor sponsored swim for Youth Zone
A Blackburn solicitor is set to take on a swimming challenge in support of Blackburn Youth Zone. Oliver McCann, Employment & HR Partner and head of Napthens Solicitors’ East Lancashire office, will be swimming the 5K Great North Swim on the 7th June 2019, to raise vital funds for the local charity.
The biggest water swimming event in the UK, the Great North Swim takes place in Lake Windermere, the largest lake in England at 10.5 miles long. The 5k swimming distance is the equivalent to a half marathon in running terms and can take strong swimmers anything between 1 hour 10 minutes to 2 hours to complete in temperatures of between 12-15 degrees Celsius.
Oliver has been training weekly in preparation for the challenge and has set himself a fundraising target of £3,500 which will go towards keeping Blackburn Youth Zone doors open, seven days a week.
Based in its iconic orange building just off Cathedral Square, Blackburn Youth Zone provides a wide range of activities for young people aged 5 to 19 years old, or up to 25 with a disability. With an entrance fee of just 50p, facilities include a canteen, basketball courts, covered football pitch, climbing walls, dance studio, fully-equipped gym, live music room, recording studio and a gaming room.
Oliver McCann, Employment & HR partner and head of the East Lancashire office at Napthens Solicitors said:
“This is a challenge for me personally, never having swam 5k distance before or in open water. I’m naturally apprehensive, but determined to do this and knowing it is for such a great cause and will raise vital funds is all the motivation I need”
Hannah Allen, CEO of Blackburn Youth Zone said:
